It’s a genuine worry that keeps a lot of smart people from ever getting started in the first place.</p>

<p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5">It’s easy to scroll through social media, watch vibe coders prompting their way to apps and websites, and think to yourself, <em>oh, maybe my skills aren't worth anything any more.</em></p>
<p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5">But the real fear, I think, is whether or not AI coding puts <em>us</em> on a path to become vibe coders ourselves?</p>

Will our mental muscle for holding complex systems in our heads begin to atrophy?</p>

<p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5">I felt this too, <em>especially</em> early on.</p>
<p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5">As usual, I was trying to hold the entire codebase in my head. But I was also monitoring and reviewing everything my agent was doing. It was overwhelming, and a <em>lot</em> more exhausting than I expected.</p>
<p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5"><strong>My solution was to stop trying to hold everything in my head.</strong></p>

I don't give up trying to hold <em>anything</em> in my head.</p>

Which is already how developers on large projects with multiple human team members have to operate every day.</p>
<p style="margin:1em 0;font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;color:#2d2d2f;font-size:16px;line-height:1.5">This is where Real Engineering skills really shine.</p>

I care deeply about what goes in and what goes out, but don’t try so hard to retain the internal workings of each module once it's working.</p>

The contracts, the boundaries, the expected behavior. How the modules relate to each other. I carefully design them, keep <em>the interfaces, not the implementations</em> in my head.</p>
